Device files
Attach documents to a device — datasheets, calibration protocols, wiring photos — so they stay with the unit instead of living in someone's mailbox.
Anyone who can see a device can open its files and read the list. Uploading and deleting requires Construction Admin or above in the Organization that owns the device. Below that role the gallery opens read-only, with no upload area and no Delete buttons.
How it works
Files are stored per device and follow the unit, not the Measurement Point. Reassigning a device to another point keeps its files.
Open the files
The Files button appears everywhere a device does:
- Assigned devices table — expand a row
- Available devices table — expand a row
- Not assigned device cards, in the unregistered pool (Global Admin)
The dialog opens as Manage files (Device: <device name>).
Upload
- Drag files onto the upload area, or click it to pick them
- The selected files are listed below the area
- Click Save
Nothing is uploaded until you click Save.
Device files accept any file type, up to 100 MB per file. This is deliberately wider than construction and Measurement Point images, which are restricted to JPG, PNG and PDF because those are rendered in the portal.
Delete
- Click Delete under the file — it dims and the button changes to Keep
- Click Keep if you change your mind
- Click Save to apply
Deleting is only applied on Save, so marking a file and closing the dialog changes nothing.
Deleting a file is permanent. There is no recycle bin.
Viewing files
- Images are shown as thumbnails in the Gallery.
- Other files show a file icon with an Open link. Depending on your browser, Open either shows the file in a new tab or downloads it.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause |
|---|---|
| "Could not load the files — you may not have permission" | The list could not be fetched. An empty gallery is never shown in place of a failed request, so this message means the request failed, not that the device has no files |
| No upload area, no Delete buttons, no Save | You are below Construction Admin in this Organization — the dialog is read-only |
"File <name> is larger than 100 MB" | Split the file or upload a smaller export |
| A file you just uploaded is missing after reopening | The list is re-fetched every time the dialog opens, so what you see is the server state. Check that Save completed without an error alert |
